8 Must-Have Items for a Fun and Boredom-Free Kids’ Summer

By Carl Avery Jun30,2020

Summer is almost here and a lot of parents are starting to get anxious about it because of their kids.

Fret not. As long as you give your kids the right thing and avenue to spend their time and energy on, you’ll be fine.

8 Items Every Kid Needs for an Enjoyable Summer Break

  1. Sporting Gears

Summer is a great time to get outdoors and play all kinds of sports. It is the perfect time to play basketball, baseball, football, soccer, and other fun sports with friends. Ask your child which sport they want to try and support them by enrolling them in a summer sports program and getting them the appropriate gear.

  1. Gaming Devices

Like it or not, we now live in a digital age where video games matter more than toys. That’s just how it is. So instead of being bugged by your kids every day that they need something to play with, gaming devices, such as a gaming laptop, computer, or console, will keep them off your backs for hours.

Of course, you still need to regulate their digital device usage lest they end up in a zombie-like state at home.

  1. Books and Other Reading Materials

Reading is another great way of spending the summer without getting bored. Reading not only allows your child to learn and gain valuable knowledge in different aspects of life, but it also unlocks their imagination which lets them become anything and go anywhere. There is magic in reading.

  1. Exercise Equipment

While playing sports allows them to be physically active, getting your kids their own exercise equipment, such as a resistance rubber band, jump rope, or trampoline, will encourage them to get fit and healthy in a fun way.

  1. Toys, Toys, Toys!

Personally, no gadget or device will ever replace the wonders of playing with toys. Toys help nurture a child’s creativity and imagination which allows them to incorporate out-of-the-box thinking as they grow up. Whether these are dolls, action figures, playsets, die-cast cars, Legos, or what-have-you, toys are an integral part of childhood that promotes learning and creativity.

  1. A Journal

Encourage your child to start journaling at a young age. Get a nice journal and a pen for them and teach the wonders of expressing their thoughts and ideas on paper. Journaling is found to have health benefits on top of passing the time, too.

  1. Arts and Crafts Materials

Since kids have plenty of time to kill during summer, why not give them some creative pursuits by giving them arts and crafts projects that they can do. Whether these projects are supervised or not, it helps improve their fine motor skills, develop critical thinking, foster creativity, and feel good about themselves once they’ve accomplished a certain project.

  1. A Musical Instrument

Some people say that playing a musical instrument allows a person to use both sides of the brain. It helps literacy skills, verbal memory, and spatial reasoning.

Give your child a musical instrument of their liking. Sign them up for classes. Encourage them to keep playing whether they’re good at it or not. Who knows? You may have a future Beethoven or Vivaldi in your family.

Summertime doesn’t have to be boring for your kids. If you give them the right avenue to keep them occupied, they will have a productive summer and they won’t even notice it because of all the fun they’re having.
